Favourite Board Games

We’re planning on buying ourselves a board game this evening to bring up to the cottage tomorrow. We already know what we’re getting but it’s always nice to get some recommendations or to hear about board games we’ve never heard/played before. So tell me, what’s your favourite board game and why do you like it so much?

  1. I really like Apples to Apples. While it isn’t really a “board game”, it works very well for being a party game. It really needs more than two people to play, however.
In terms of board games, I have three different copies of Monopoly, so I suppose that is a default answer. However, I also have Adventures in Neopia ($2), and Ziggity (a handheld card version of Cranium).

  2. These aren’t “board games”, but more along the lines of “party games”.
    Catch Phrase
    Cranium (which has been said)
Apples to Apples (which has been said)
Huppla (from the makers of Cranium)

  3. I reckon Scrabble – cos it’s fun (you can quiz others as to whether their words are really ‘words’ as such), and you learn even more!

  4. Settlers of Catan!!!! My friends and I just bought Cities and Knights expansion…
Any German board game is fun πŸ™‚

  5. I’m really a scrabble kind of guy, but yeah, Settlers of Catan was good too. Years since I’ve played it though..
Pictionary! Almost forgot the best. πŸ™‚

  6. Scrabble and Monopoly. But then again, I don’t know many board games myself. So I may not be the right person to give a recommendation πŸ˜€

  7. I love Scrabble.
There are a lot of reasons that I love it, but I have really enjoyed it in the last couple of years with my boyfriend. We have probably the same level of thinking ability, and it’s a challenge for either of us to beat the other. It’s rather hilarious. We tend to lose within 10 points of one another. Lots of great memories. πŸ™‚

  8. Back in Indo,we’ve used to play lotsa “Ular Tangga” though, despite the fact when I tend to grow older,I switched to electronic games instead! πŸ˜‰ Still Ular Tangga rocks!

  9. I like scrabble and monopoly (the only thing I hate about monopoly is it’s with no ending, till the bank got bankrupt LOL). However, I like computer online game that enable me play with some friends that living far away. WHile if I have to play with some children, I would like to play card where the each player had to describe the word while the other had to guess it. It enrich my english with thing like hopscotch or other vocabulary that I never heard before.

  10. Settlers of Catan is a modern day classic, & a lot of fun. I’m enjoying a game called “For Sale” at the moment (and it only takes 20-25 minutes to play!). I’ve given up on 2 hour plus Monopoly games, they’ve lost their appeal with so many other excellent choices around nowadays.
    Here’s some great games reviewed:
