Um, so, yeah, happy 2007 and all that. Now that the holidays season is over, I keep trying to come up with days to celebrate just so that I could do some gift-wrapping and get some presents. Yesterday I came up with the 4-day-and-3-months-till-my-birthday-day but Troy didn’t buy that. Boo! Though he liked today’s idea, i.e. buying a Nintendo Wii as a Valentine’s Day present to ourselves. Not that we know when the next batch of Wii will be released.
Anyway, I got Troy Settlers of Catan board game plus the expansion pack for Christmas and between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, we spent more hours that I’d care to admit playing the game. One night Troy, myself and four friends got together and played until around 1:30 in the morning. Once we were back in Waterloo, we got into Catan withdrawal, so much that we had to buy Settlers of Catan card game just so that the two of us could play the game (the board game requires at least three players).
Troy also got a game called Pop 5 for Christmas from his parents. We played it a couple of times and I really sucked at it. Now if I could just get a Blokus Duo to play with Troy, I’d be one happy llama.
So, did you get or play any interesting games recently?

When with friends.
I play Scrabble.
And Scrabble.
And some Settlers.
And Worms PC game.
And Trivial Pursuit.
And Risk because they wanna and I can’t get what I want always.
But.
I’m not playing Axis & Allies ever again!
That sucks.

Settlers of Catan ! We got that too! It sucked away a good 75% of the holiday.
What a great game.

That looks like so much fun, as well as a fabulous time-waster. We bought some old-school board games for Christmas – most of the holiday went to playing Clue and Trivial Pursuit (albeit the ’90s edition).
I think Settlers of Catan needs to go on the shopping list now, though!

Nina: Only by Settlers is you are willing to get addicted to a board game. It really draws you in. I think the most consecutive games played by Firda and I have been 3 (at about an hour playing time each). We even got my dad addicted.

Oh sweet sweet catan how I love thee…
I played for 14 hours once….
A Catan Haiku for you….
One ore for two sheep
Or I will robber your brick
And steal longest road
05/01/2007 @ 9:23 AM
Trade sheep with me, or
Monopoly card be dropped
And you lose your herd
05/01/2007 @ 9:40 AM
People of Catan
Lend me your ore and your wheat
Behold my City!
05/01/2007 @ 9:47 AM
O lovely Catan,
The game where friends are evil,
Robbing my brick, jerks!
05/01/2007 @ 9:49 AM
Words that sound dirty.
Dude! I have wood for your sheep.
Inappropriate!
05/01/2007 @ 9:51 AM
Would you like to trade
Your brick and wood for an ore?
Huh? What longest road?
05/01/2007 @ 9:57 AM
Soldier ousts robber!
Three makes the largest army.
Two points for the win!
05/01/2007 @ 11:55 AM
Hey there did you know?
That geeks make Catan Haikus.
Geeks we are indeed!

Variations for
Two players are plentiful
If you Google it

Settlers of Catan
The two-player card game is
Not so bad, really
Less confusing than
Two-player variations
For the board game. Yes.

my parents got me dominos, which i guess they forgot they got me a few years ago. i guess they forgot becauses it’s still hidden in a box somewhere.
nah,, i love it.
they also got me a game that i cannot remember the name of, where there are different categories, and you have to figure out what 3 different things have in common. it’s less sesame street than it sounds.

Lindsey: I believe the game is called TriBond. We have that one as well. We are a getting to be a little bit of a board game/card game freaks.
