My name is Firda and I am an Indonesian walking disaster. Home is Waterloo, Ontario, Canada where I live with my beloved husband Troy. I take pictures and design websites for fun. I blog for my sanity. More?
Started on February 20, 2000, Weblog Wannabe has since won several Bloggies™. It contains links to sites that I think are silly and/or interesting with the occasional ramblings thrown in for good measure.
Blogroll me or subscribe to my feed.
This weblog is powered by Movable Type. The entries are mostly the results of tireless web browsing with my best buddy, Mozilla Firefox. Site design is copyrighted by Firda Beka. That's me, not you.
I'm proud to announce that I survived the Blogathon with neither coffee nor masturbation. I rock my face off! ;) ♥
Overdue song #1: Do you Know the Way to San Jose?, originally sung by Dionne Warwick.
This one is for Tim. Thanks for the gift! :) ♥
Thanks to all my sponsors and friends for all the support. I had fun even though I ended up feeling like a zombie ;P Thanks once again and I hope we can do it again next year! ♥
Jasmine Haiku
My favourite flower
Is the white, fragrant jasmine
Worms also like it.
I used to beg my mum to plant some jasmine in our garden but my mum always refused because, according to her, jasmine always invites the worms. My mum hates worms. But then again, who loves worms anyway other than the chicken, the birds, and the fish? ♥
Song #23: Anyone At All by Carole King.
No one I know can understand why I like Carole King at all since her voice is not really all that beautiful. I like her simply because her voice sounds lazy :) It always suits the mood of slackers like me. ♥
Rose Haiku
"Roses are red and
Violets are blue" are so not
Haiku friendly. No.
I'm so good at writing stupid haikus. I wonder if any publisher would want to publish it should I decide to compile all the stupid haikus I've ever written in my entire life into a book. The book would've been really thick! ♥
Song #22: Lose Your Way by Sophie B. Hawkins.
It's a more recent favourite. I'm such a sucker for dreamy songs. Mind you, I'm a big dreamer myself. ♥
Mouse Haiku
It is past midnight
Hear noises from the attic
The mice strike again.
The mice are always running around or chewing on the wood in the attic and make plenty of noises, sometimes enough to wake up the whole house. Those darn mice... ♥
Song #21: Somewhere Out There from the American Tail.
This is also one of my all-time favourite songs. It always makes me feel dreamy :) ♥
Dog Haiku
Samoyed, Beagle
Saint Bernard, Bernese Mountain
Those are breeds of dogs.
When I was a kid, I almost kicked one of the most fiercest dogs in the neighbourhood because I thought it was a stone. Luckily, I realised that it was a dog instead of a stone before I actually kicked it. Yes, I've always been a silly girl. ♥
Song #20: Over the Rainbow from "The Wizard of Oz".
It's yet another old song, suggested to me by yet another Rebecca. Thanks! :) I think "The Wizard of Oz" is a very, very disturbing story. I don't really like it. But "Over the Rainbow" is a lovely song. ♥
Polar Bear Haiku
Polar Bear is white
They like to eat seals, fresh seals
Live in the North Pole.
My mum used to have a Danish boss that I nicknamed Polar Bear because he always looked so pale, his hair was so white, and his stare was always so cold. Everytime I see a polar bear on TV, I can't help but thinking of him and wonder where he is now and if he's still alive at all. ♥
Song #19: Dream A Little Dream, originally sung by The Mamas and The Papas.
The band name never fails to crack me up. But I really love this song. And I think I sound kind of sexy in this song. Ha! That is if you find sleepy voice sexy. I know some people do ;) ♥
Did you know that the Blogathon will end at 2AM on Monday my time and that I'll have to get up and get ready for work three hours later? I am *so* not doing this for the hits. ♥
Song #18: Fields of Gold, originally sung by Sting.
It's yet another all-time favourite of mine. I think it's kind of chopped off near the end due to the lack of memory in my computer part. Mind you, my poor old computer only has 16MB of RAM. ♥
Cactus Haiku
Cactus is real tough
It needs little attention
It can store water.
Have you ever eaten cactus? There are some cactus recipes here. I wonder what it tastes like. Not that I'd want to taste it. I don't eat anything that's green. I'm a meatatarian :) Anyway, this cactus haiku was suggested by Rebecca. ♥
Song #17: My Favourite Things from the musical "Sound of Music".
Anything from "Sound of Music" just can't go wrong. Besides, the song can cheer me up a bit :) ♥
Chimpanzee Haiku
Chimpanzees are brave
They've gone to the outerspace
To see all your base.
The last line doesn't really make sense so just ignore it. I was just trying to make all the lines rhyme. And the "all your base" meme is already tired. But hey, it's a haiku! Marq asked for it. ♥
Song #16: Love Of My Life, originally sung by Queen.
I'm a bit upset about something so you get a depressing song. Heh. This song is for Nita. I hope it won't depress her :) ♥
Hedgehog Haiku
Hedgehogs are prickly
They're also rather tiny
They don't make much noise.
Hmm, I don't really have much to say about hedgehogs since I've never seen a real life one myself and I don't think I've ever seen it featured in any documentary film. I do know Sonic the Hedgehog, though. I'm sure Chunshek knows more about hedgehogs since he asked for this haiku :) ♥
Song #15: Wonderful Tonight, originally sung by Eric Clapton.
This song was requested by Marq. I tried my best to sound like a man but failed miserably. I was going to change "she" into "he" but then I can't imagine a guy "putting on his make-up and brushes his long blonde hair" while the girl is waiting for him. It just doesn't sound right, so I didn't. Am I too naive? ♥
Chinchilla Haiku
Chinchillas don't smell
And their litter does not stink
They do like routines.
But still, they look too much like rats. I don't think I'd want to have anything that look like a rat as a pet. But then again, chinchillas and rats are cousins. Can't blame them for looking alike. Anyway, this chinchilla haiku is for Jordan. I think he likes chinchillas. I wonder if he likes rats too :) ♥
Song #14: Yesterday, originally sung by the Beatles.
This song was requested by Jordan and it happens to be the only song by the Beatles that I know by heart. It's a lovely song. Of course since it was sung by me, it sounds far from lovely, but hey, I never said I was a professional singer. I just love to sing :) ♥
Cow Haiku
Oh cow, my dear cow
I can't live without your brains
And your innards too.
I actually eat cow brains and innards. Not every day, mind you. Only about twice a week. They can be quite yummy as long as you know how to cook them, which most people don't. They're also really fatty. If you have high cholesterol level and you don't know what cow brains and innards taste like, consider yourself a lucky person :) ♥
Song #13: Baa Baa Black Sheep from the Nursery Rhymes.
This is the first English song that I could sing. My mum taught me to sing this song when I was still at kindergarten. I didn't know what the song means until I was in middle school. ♥
Goldfish Haiku
Goldfish is so cool
I have four goldfish at home
I'm four times cooler.
My goldfish names are Jordan, Nikolai, Linux, and Unix. They like to eat. No, scratch that. They love to eat. They live for eating. But even though they eat a lot, they keep on living, unlike some regular goldfish that die after being overfed. And I feed them a lot, mind you. They must be super goldfish! ♥
Oranges Haiku
Oranges are good
Good for you and good for me
It's my favourite fruit.
Every time I go to the supermarket, I just have to buy half a dozen oranges. I do it compulsively. I'm a compulsive orange buyer. It may sound silly, but it's true. My favourite is Mandarin orange. Unfortunately, they are very expensive these days. I haven't had any for months :( ♥
Song #11: Here With Me, originally sung by Dido.
I sang this song also on Nikolai's request. I think he's heard me singing this before, but I'm sure you haven't, so I sang it anyway ;) ♥
Meerkat Haiku
Meerkat can stand up
On its two legs, just like you
But much hairier.
I've never seen a real life meerkat in my whole life. I've only seen them on some TV documentary program. I don't remember much about them. I only remember that they can stand up straight on its two hind legs, which I think is kind of interesting. Meerkat is Nikolai's favourite animal, and this haiku was written on his request. Thanks! :) ♥
Song #10: Someone Else's Story from the musical "Chess".
I love musicals. Can you tell? ;) But I don't have the recordings of any of the songs from musicals that I've sung today. It's either someone else sang it for me, which I took up, or I heard it somewhere else and then taught myself to sing it. I'm a self-taught musical fan, and proud of it :) ♥
Strawberry Haiku
Don't eat strawberry
But love Strawberry ice-cream
Strawberry tastes nice.
I ate fresh strawberry once and it didn't taste quite like I imagined. Ever since that day, I only devour strawberry-flavoured anything, but never fresh strawberry. Right now, I have a craving for strawberry sundae because it's so hot. Since I have to go to the mall to buy it and I can't leave my computer due to the Blogathon, I just can't have it. Sigh. Poor me. ♥
Frog Haiku
Frogs are so slimy
They are really ugly too
People eat their legs.
But not me. Frogs are not that ugly, actually. In fact, I think they're kind of cute. Cute kind of ugly, if there is such thing. They sell living frogs at supermarkets here. I thought frog eating people ate the whole frog, but no. They only eat the hind legs because, to quote my mother, it's the less poisonous part of a frog. Dyanna requested this frog haiku. Thanks! :) ♥
Song #8: At My Most Beautiful, originally by R.E.M.
It's yet another song that I sang just because I love it :) Come on, people. Keep on suggesting songs! Who knows, I might know the song that you suggested and might decide to sing it. If there's no suggestion or I don't know any of the songs you suggested, song #9 is going to be a Britney Spears song. Seriously. You're not going to let me sing it, aren't you? ;) ♥
Squid Haiku
I like to eat squids
But I've never eaten one
That is gigantic.
I've never even seen one, other than on TV. Small squids are yummy. We usually have them cooked with coconut milk and some spices. Squids in Bahasa Indonesian or Indonesian language is "cumi-cumi". Cute, eh? ;) This haiku was written for Tim. Too bad I don't know how to sing "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" :) ♥
Song #7: Strong Enough, originally by Sheryl Crow.
Every once in awhile you hear a song that can speak for you, as if it was written for you or could've been written by you. This is one of those songs for me. I simply love it. ♥
Orca Haiku
Killer Whales eat seals
And fishes, squids, penguins, moose
They eat everything.
But still I'd love to swim with them. Crazy, eh? ;) I think killer whales are beautiful creatures. It must be the colours. I love black and white combination. Yeah. ♥
Yay, a new sponsor! Happiness is getting new sponsors :) ♥
By the way, you may request a song for me to sing and suggest an animal or a plant for me to write a haiku about if you want. That will help a lot because I'm running out of idea already. Just post your requests and suggestions on the little comment thingy. Thanks! :) ♥
Song #5: Head Over Feet, originally by Alanis Morissette.
Once again, no one requested this song, but it's one of my favourite songs, so I sang it anyway :) I hope listening to it won't hurt your ears too much. ♥
Song #4: Wishin' and Hopin', originally by Ani DiFranco (though Troy might disagree).
This song, which was requested by Wari, is so silly it cracks me up all the time. Needless to say, I had to sing and record it over and over again to get the version without my laughter in it :) ♥
By the way, if you want to help keep me awake (which I really, really need), join me at the Quack-O-Matic, and just quack! I'd really appreciate it :) ♥
Scorpion Haiku
Scorpions can be pets
Keep your hands off them always
And you'll be just fine.
Or so what I read on the Scorpion site. Never in a million year will I keep a scorpion as a pet. I'd rather have an iguana. Anyway, Wari requested this haiku. He probably would like to keep scorpions as pets. Heh. ♥
Song #3: We Could Be Together, originally by Debbie Gibson. Yes, I know. Ewww.
Actually, Rebecca requested another Debbie Gibson song, but I didn't know how to sing it, so I sang the one I knew instead. I kinda like it :) ♥
Song #2: Rubberducky from, um, "Sesame Street"?
Troy of Canada requested this song and I like it quite a lot :) ♥
Song #1: Corner of the Sky from the musical "Pippin".
(It's chopped off near the end due to the lack of memory in my poor, old computer. Sorry.) ♥
Penguin Haiku
Penguin is a bird
Though have wings, penguin can't fly
Some whales eat penguin.
That's the first haiku for the Blogathon, requested by the hyperlink unfriendly Troy of Canada, who hopefully is having fun at the cottage right now with either the cat or his new bike. Heh. By the way, if I sound dumber than usual, it's because I'm only half awake. It's 2AM in my part of the world. Good time to start, eh? ;) NOT! ♥
You know what I'm going to say if someday some guy asks me out for a date? I'd say, "Who dared you to do that?"
I think the best answer I can give when asked for the reason why I'm still single would be "I'm still trying to figure that out myself." ♥
From Quack-O-Matic:
Troy : Ha ha. I'm not around to make anyone happy :) Well except Firda. I try to make her happy.
Have I mentioned that Troy is my favourite Canadian? ;) ♥
Jordan blogged this some time ago. It's still funny now. Twenty songlyrics, multibabelled. ♥
The Date Calculator isn't really like what I thought it was. [Thanks, Troy, for straightening it up!] ♥
If you like porn, have some shrimp porn and keyboard porn. [Via Nita] ♥
Friday Afternoon Haiku
I am so sleepy
Bedtime's far from being near
There's so much to do.
I'm still alive. I've just been so unmotivated to blog. And I think my brain is dead. But I'll make it up to you during the Blogathon. Anyone willing to stick around and keep me awake? I know some of my sponsors won't. Sniff. I'm so sad. It will be a long and lonely 24 hours... ♥
I think someone in Geocities has stolen my code but let my Nedstats code stay. Hence the tonnes of hits I've been getting from the Geocities file manager. Hmm. Too bad I can't track down the url. I'd love to see it :) ♥
Seven useless facts about yours truly:
[1] I should not be let in a nuclear missile control room because I tend to push the wrong button.
[2] You can try to dare me to do the craziest thing and there's 90% chance that I would do it.
[3] I can't cook to save my life, but I bake the best cheese brownies in the world.
[4] I have two brothers whom I love to death. My older brother is a year older than me and my younger brother is 3 years younger than me.
[5] I have neither a dress nor a skirt in my wardrobe. My parents gave up on buying me girly clothes a decade ago because I'd never wear them.
[6] I think my parents find me only good for bragging about to their friends.
[7] The first thing I do as soon as I step out of the house to go to work in the morning is look up to the sky and try to predict the weather.
You could care less. ♥
In case any of you took these fun facts on Dick Cheney too seriously, there has never been a news programme on Indonesian television called "On Dick Cheney" and I don't know in which part of Indonesia does "Cheney" mean "Happy Sex Party". So there. ♥
Action Figure Block Party is kind of like a comic strip with pictures of action figures having a party. What else did you expect? I don't even know why I blogged this. Heh. ♥
I predict that someday soon, all airlines will have designer's barf bag on board and it will become a collectible item, just like sugar packets. Yeah. ♥
Imperial Fora Official Website has two special motorized cameras that allows you to see live views from the terrace of the Palazzo Senatorio, in the piazza of the Campidoglio. You can move the cameras around to get different views right from their website. Very cool! And the views are just beautiful. ♥
Make work a little more fun with Planet Wally's Office Pranks. Word AutoCorrect Prank is my favourite. You can make it so that Microsoft Word does AutoIncorrect instead of AutoCorrect by changing "the" into "teh", for instance. The possibility is endless! ♥
Tuesday Morning Haiku
Yay, I'm updating!
Do you really miss me much?
I do not think so.
Stupid haiku. Well, as I said the last time I updated, I haven't been motivated enough to blog. I was going to blog yesterday, but then there was a political turmoil in my country and I was just too worried to blog. But now I think everything is going to be fine. We've got a new president. The former president who was dismissed by the parliament yesterday still thinks he's the president and he won't leave the presidential palace so things might get interesting in the next few days.
On a different note, I think I got the job in Singapore (thanks to Wari), but I'm going to have to go through the long-winded employment procedures before I can sign the contract with them and resign from my current job. But still, that's something to be happy about. It's kind of hard imagining myself being an expatriate, or to borrow their term, foreign talent. Ha! I am foreign to Singapore but I'm not sure about being a talent.
You know what? I think I'm going to miss eating cow brains and innards very much once I'm there... ♥
In response to my "Carpe Diem" post, Emlyn asked if my life really needed to be any more extraordinary. I've been thinking about it a lot these last couple of days and I've finally come to a conclusion that my life is already extraordinary. I mean, life in a city where bomb goes off in public place every two days can't be all that ordinary, can it? ♥
New Worm Keeps Them Guessing, and I received one yesterday in my inbox. Of course I didn't get infected. I'm an excellent anti-virus for my computer :) The body of the email with the virus attached that I received begins, "Hi! How are you?" and then says something like: "I send you this file in order to have your advice," and ends with, "See you later. Thanks." The attachment can end in all kinds of suffixes, such as .lnk or .bat, but in my case, it ends with .com. Beware, the virus is destructive. ♥
Another geekish resource is The Microsoft-English Dictionary 1.0, or What Microsoft Really Means To Say. Yeah, it's yet another Microsoft-bashing site.
On a totally unrelated note, eating jackfruits followed by drinking Coke is highly unrecommended (is that a word?) unless you want your tummy feels like it's going to explode. ♥
I've always been interested in user interface design (which is part of the job I was interviewed for yesterday) and usability. I can recognise a bad user interface design when I see one. Interface Hall of Shame has a bunch of examples of them. Check them out, and weep. ♥
Saturday Afternoon Haiku
Somebody give me
A motivation to blog
I need it badly.
I just haven't been motivated enough and, well, I'm too lazy to find some links :P Troy, who is great (he made me say that ;), said I should blog about my job prospects, but the thing is, there is no job prospect. Well, there was one, but after the disastrous phone interview yesterday, I don't think I could still call it a job prospect. I hate how I always sound like an idiot on the phone. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed. Miracles do happen :) ♥
Check out the collection of amusing advice and words of wisdom from old books published between 1822 and 1978 at Miss Abigail's Time Warp Advice. Who knows, it might be able to help you solve your modern-day problems ;) ♥
This is bound to happen: World Wildlife Fund for Nature began a legal grapple with the World Wrestling Federation over the use of the initials WWF. I do hope the former will win. If you don't like WWF wrestling, sponsor me in the 24-Hour Blogathon 'cause I'll be doing it to raise fund for the other, much cooler WWF ;) More info in the right sidebar. ♥
If you are a real geek, you'd know what O'Really is parodising. I especially like this book from their online catalog: Distributing Clue to Users. Good stuff. ♥
Congratulations to Nikolai for winning one of the prizes in the Blogger Template Contest! I predict that he'll soon switch his geek religion from .asp to .cfm :) <grumbles> Had I known that non-US participants might get their designs used and receive a Blogger t-shirt, I would've entered. </grumbles> ♥
Thursday Morning Haiku
Last day of the week
I'm taking tomorrow off
A 3-day weekend!
Sorry for no bloggage yesterday. I've been kind of busy. Kind of. But I've pretty much made up for the lack of sleep I had last week. No or less blogging means more sleep for me :) By the way, this month might not be my last month online after all. I might stay here until September or October (it depends on a lot of things). Yeah, my supervisor tried to talk me into staying (for good) again yesterday. She said she'd be very happy if I stayed. But I wouldn't. So my last day here will be either in September or October. Yeah. Unless I got another job that required me to start in September then I'd stick to the original plan. Anyway, today is the second anniversary of my working here. To quote a co-worker, happy in-day to me :) ♥
False Advertising: a gallery of parody is a gallery of advertising parody. Pretty obvious, huh? Well, basically, it showcases images of some popular brand name logos that have been altered for some quick laugh. Enjoy. ♥
A couple of days ago, Joe requested my "creative magic" for his latest project, Intersect. I thought I'd be able to come up with something soon, but now, two days later, I still can't think of anything to send him because I suck so much. So now I'm requesting you, my dear readers, to check out Intersect and send your creative magic to Joe. Tell him that I send you :) Now go, go, go! Shoo! ♥
One of these Naughty Food Items is from Indonesia, but of course in Indonesian language, it has no naughty connotation. "Titi" is a pretty common Indonesian female name. Still I'm glad that my parents didn't name me "Titi". Would be too embarrassing when used online ;) ♥
Tuesday Morning Haiku
I dislike Tuesdays
Furthest day from the weekend
Other than Monday
Well, I don't really dislike Tuesdays, but apparently, Troy does. Yeah, I made him a guest haikuer for another day since I still couldn't think of any haiku to write. I suck. But I'll try to come up with one of my own tomorrow. Promise. Not that you'd mind if I kept on asking Troy to write the haiku. His seem to sound less silly than mine. ♥
Apparently, this is what would happen if men raised the kids. Hmm. I thought they already did that. Raising the kids, that is. And seeing how kids are these days, I think the damage is done. ♥
Interview with God is beautiful, even if I disagree about God being a parent. It's still inspiring. ♥
I've got this idea going around for some time but been too lazy to materialise it so I'm glad to find that someone already did it. The Voices Behind The Text is a voice directory of weblog owners. You can submit your voice to them, or you can call my voicemail ;) The way to Firda's heart is through voicemail. Seriously. ♥
Monday Morning Haiku
Monkeys on Monday
Taking over the cosmos
Shoo Stupid Monkeys!
Today's guest haikuer (is that a word?) is the homepageless, unhyperlinkable Troy. I think he has a thing for monkeys. I used to collect stuffed monkeys when I was a wee little girl, but now I collect stuffed justaboutanyanimal, from mouse to parrot. My last acquisitions are stuffed Snoopy and Woodstock. They're cute. They're my bedmates but they always end up on the floor in the morning. Poor Snoopy and Woodstock... ♥
Amazing Wireless Eclair is a pretty amusing parody of the silly X10 wireless camera popup ad. They fail to mention that it also fits in your stomach. The eclair, that is. Not the camera. (From Jordan via Quack-O-Matic) ♥
I took the Tom Cruise Movie or Gay Porno? quiz and scored 11 out of 12. Not bad for someone who is neither a Tom Cruise fan nor a movie buff. Tom would be so proud. ♥
Saturday Morning Haiku
It's now Saturday.
Somewhere else, it's still Friday.
Ha ha, those poor folks.
Phil wrote that one 'cause I couldn't think of any. So it's Saturday. A neighbour passed away last night and his family didn't have enough money to bury him. How sad is that? I wish I could afford to donate more. I didn't really know him and his family and vice versa, but still...
On a lighter note, I'm going to take Nikolai's suggestion and see "Shrek" today. My online resume and portfolio will have to wait, even if that means I'll have to stay up all night to finish it. Seeing "Shrek" better be worth it ;) ♥
Jordan says h4v3 @ l337 d4y >;) I especially like the boxer shorts. They've got characters. ♥
Today is Friday the 13th. Cool! :)
If that doesn't excite you (I know it doesn't excite me), check out these lists of unusual town names in America and Canada for some useless trivia. Do you live in or near any of those towns? ♥
This page cannot be displayed. Seriously. ♥
Friday Morning Haiku
Hooray for Friday!
And hooray for Saturday!
Boohoo for Sunday!
Yeah, I know. Stupid haiku. Sorry for the lack of update yesterday. No, I didn't get myself a life or anything like that. There was no electricity, so I just did what people did during the night before electricity was invented: sleep. It wasn't easy at all to fall asleep because the mosquitoes were having a field day since it was dark and all, and I must look really yummy to them in the dark. It was also really hot but to keep the mosquitoes from sucking my blood dry, I had to wrap myself with a blanket. It was pure misery. Luckily, I hadn't had enough sleep all week so I fell asleep anyway. It was the longest sleep I've ever had in, like, two months.
I'm feeling okayish this morning, but I keep on getting those words from the movie "Dead Poets Society" repeating over and over inside my head. "Carpe diem! Seize the day! Make your life extraordinary!" I'm trying. I really am. Be quiet already! ♥
Thursday Morning Haiku
Today is payday
That doesn't impress me much
Money comes and goes.
If you're arriving here from Babes, sorry I didn't get around to updating yesterday as promised. I felt kind of down last night and didn't really feel like playing with html. But I'll do it as soon as I get home. This time for real. Blogging will have to wait until I finish updating. Oh by the way, I finally submitted my url to Joe's Ageless Project yesterday. Didn't submit it earlier because I didn't really like my previous designs. Would you believe that I actually inspired him to start that project? ;) Didn't think so. Anyway, according to the chart posted in the news section, kids of the 70s are ruling the web. I'm a kid of the 70s, therefore I rule. Mwahahaha!!! But then again, you probably knew that already *wink, wink* ♥
Check out what's lucky for you at Astromantra, and laugh. According to that thing, my best professions are Defense Services, Doctors, Chemists, Chemical Engineers, Bakers, Tailors, Steel. Steel? Oh yeah, I can see myself very well posing as a bridge. Also according to them, my best boss' star sign is Sagittarius. If you're a Sagittarian and you have your own company, hire me, please? ;) ♥
The Tacky Postcard Archive has seven galleries of scanned real, snail mail postcards with silly, funny, or corny pictures on it. Some people have really weird sense of humour. ♥
The Stick Figure Man thinks he has the worst job in the world because he has to pose for all sorts of warning signs, showing him in many bodily harming situations. The Deadly Follies of Stick Figure Warning-Man and Family are meant to serve as a cautionary tale. To quote the Stick Figure Man, "Look upon my works and weep. Or just be glad you're not me." If you only have time to visit one site today, go to this one. It'll crack you up. ♥
Do you hate (American) football? If you do, you can join the Citizens United Against Football. If I were American, I would :) Let's face it, the sport is so uncivilised and violent. And there are still ten other reasons why you should be against football, among others: "Football fields are not metric. Another instance of American foulness and ignorance." Heh. ♥
Notes From an Expedition to the Cellfoan People is an interesting observation on, well, Cellfoan people. If you like pun, you'd probably know what it's all about even before you click the link. I'm proud to say that I'm one of those rare non-Celfoan. Celfoan people are evil :P ♥
Wednesday Morning Haiku
Wednesday today
It's halfway to the weekend
How I love weekends.
I don't know what I'm going to do this weekend. Yes, I'll be sitting in front of my computer all weekend long. What would you expect from a dateless dork like me? But I don't really have anything particular to do. I don't feel like redesigning again because I like this design and I want it to stay. None of my previous designs had ever been dubbed as "brilliant" before so I just have to like this one ;) I think I'll just try to come up with a fun but stupid project this weekend. After all, that's what everyone seems to like these days. I aim to please, baby! ♥
EmailAlibi.com offers an interesting free email service called delayed emails. You decide when you want the emails to be sent. You can have the email sent from work when you're actually somewhere else away from the computer. It'll give you an alibi. Not sure how strong an alibi this would make in, say, a murder case. ♥
The Coxford Singlish Dictionary, which boasts itself to be the world's largest online Singlish (Singaporean English) dictionary, is hilarious. Now I know where to go if I can't understand what Wari is talking about *grins* ♥
Here's the answer to the age-old question: Which Provides Better Support for Microsoft Products: Microsoft Tech Support or Psychic Friends Network? Oh yeah, I'm sure you are dying to find out ;) ♥
I used to read troy.diaryland.com regularly. This morning, the Troy of troy.diaryland.com showed up at Quack-O-Matic. It was weird. Nice, but weird. Mainly because I never thought I'd ever get in touch with him, and even if I did, not through Quack-O-Matic! And of course, at first I thought he was the other, homepageless Troy :)
You know, I really thought that Troy wasn't a very common name. But I still think that it's a really cool name, even if it's not Irish *smiles at both Troys* ♥
Tuesday Morning Haiku
Life is so unfair
Life is so, so, so unfair
Life is so unfair.
But then again, who said life is fair? Just when I've got to where I always wanted to be, I'll have to leave it all behind very soon. I have good great friends, I have a website that I love and that I built with love, I have nice people who like my weblog enough to read it at least half a dozen times a day... I don't want to leave. I SO don't want to leave. Please tell me that I don't have to leave? Please tell me that I could stay? Please? ♥
What's your Chinese Name? Mine is Bai Furui. "Fu" means console, comfort; pacify and "rui" means sharp. So my Chinese name should mean, um, "sharp pacifist"? ♥
In Shotgun Studios, Bob, a master technician, shows how to use his state of the art upgrade tool, a 12 gauge shotgun, to perform the precise and delicate task of upgrading computer hardware. And Bob has a really cute cat named Ellie. I hope he hasn't shot the cat dead with his shotgun. ♥
Heh. I can't believe Power Bloggers is back. I thought Andre hated it. It's still in beta, though. ♥
You know what I think? I think if I did the 24-Hour Blogathon to raise fund for the non-existent "Keep Firda Online Fund" instead of for the World Wide Fund for Nature, I would've got a lot more sponsors :/ ♥
Thanks so much for the sympathy! :) Would anyone be kind enough to write me some nice, PHP code for the project? I could write it myself but you know how sucky I am at coding. By the time I finish writing the code, I might not be online anymore... ♥
I just created yet another stupid quiz, but this time it's not weblog-related: how compatible are we? Hey, it might be stupid, but it's fun! ;) Post your results!
If you're looking for the silly but somewhat popular Weblog Hipness Quiz, you can find it here. Don't you just love silly quizzes? ;) ♥
Yay, it works! :) And two (not so) little birds told me that this design looks fine in IE 5.5 and Opera (5?). Life is good, but Monday still sucks big time. ♥
Maybe if I post a link to evhead.blogspot.com, the entries would show up. Let's see... ♥
Is it just me or is Blogger playing up by not showing my posts? ♥
Monday Morning Haiku
How I hate Monday
"I don't like Monday" simply
Won't do it justice.
I just tweaked this design a bit this morning to make it look fine in IE 4, but now I don't know how it looks like in IE 5.x, and no IE 5.x user would come to Quack-O-Matic to let me know :( Oh well. I guess I'll just have to trust my crappy IE 4. And I hope this design looks better in Opera now. See, I'm trying to be accommodating here ;) Troy and/or Jordan, I'm waiting for you at QoM. NOW! ♥
Do you have a lot of plastic bags at home and you don't know what to do with it? Well, now you can learn how to weave fabric using plastic bags to make a bag bed. Wow, it must be a very noisy bed! Not recommended for insomniacs. ♥
So, yeah, this is the new design. Do you like it? ;) The colour scheme might change, though. I'm not so crazy about grey. ♥
Sunday Morning Haiku
I am getting depressed
But I hope it won't last long
I've to keep busy.
I asked my mother how old I was when I started reading. She said I already could read by the time I entered kindergarten and that my grandpa was the one who taught me to read. I couldn't remember him teaching me to read at all, and I feel kind of guilty about it. The only memories I had of him were one where he scolded me for crying when my parents went to see a movie one night, and another one where he was standing in front of his house, very formally-clothed as if he were going to go to teach (he was a teacher; sent to jail by the Dutch for being one), watching us with a look I can't describe, as we left him after a visit. I think that was the last time I saw him alive. I saw him in a dream the night after he passed away. He tried to tell me something but I already freaked out and ran away. I wish I hadn't. I wish I'd stayed and listened. He never came into my dream again ever since. ♥
Jordan pointed me to this news: Half-Blind Swede Loses Battle for Half-Price TV. I still feel guilty for laughing over that person's misfortune. That was very insensitive of me. But it is kind of amusing, isn't it? ♥
Guys, if you have a date tonight, be sure to learn how to impress your date. If you're not much of a talker, installment #2 might come in very handy. Amusing stuff. If I had a broadband connection, I'd say hilarious. ♥
If you're running out of toilet paper, you might want to enter the weekly contest at WinToiletPaper.com. Who knows, you might win and you won't need to buy toilet paper for at least 3 months! Unless you spend more than 24 rolls of toilet paper in 3 months. ♥
Nitpicking site of the day: spellchecker.blogspot.com. I'll be keeping an eye on this one ;) ♥
Saturday Evening Haiku
Haven't felt depressed
And I hope I never will
I need nice weekend.
I've been keeping myself occupied. Not necessarily busy. Just occupied. Sprained my right arm muscle in the process but oh well. I'm a clumsy girl. I sprain a muscle almost every day. I've got used to it. I'm sleepy already even though it's only a little past 7pm and I woke up at 8:30am this morning. That's late in my book since I usually wake up before 5am. Not sure why I'm telling you these. I'm just bored, I guess. Anyway, I'm happy that Jordan is back from Arkansas. Yay for Jordan! :) ♥
According to Cap'n Wacky's Death-O-Tron, I will pass on in a peaceful manner, surrounded by close family and friends in a warm, comfortable room. "Either that, or you'll fall into a chipper-shredder at 2:33 p.m. on June 23, 2008." Hmm, that's still 7 years from now :/ When are you going to die? ♥
Those Pesky Apostrophe's is a collection of incorrect use of apostrophes in advertisements, billboards, and signs, by people who should know better. Amusing stuff, especially for nitpickers like me. ♥
Google Zeitgeist provides you with lists of popular search queries, including Top 5 Misspelled Queries, and more. It's kinda cool. Kinda. I don't sound too convincing, don't I? Well, basically, if you're interested in search engines, you'll find it somewhat interesting. ♥
I know I've blogged this before when I just started with my baby picture project last year, but I feel like blogging it again. If you can't find your baby picture anywhere, just go to NurseryPhotos.com. They claim to have a database of over 172 million baby pictures from over 90,000 hospitals worldwide since 1904. One of those pictures might be yours! ;) ♥
Friday Evening Haiku
My weekend's begun
So much I want to do, but
I'm oh so sleepy.
Less than four of hours of sleep won't do you any good. But then again, most of you've probably known that already. I was feeling crappy most of the day (and no, it wasn't because of you, Troy). I hope I won't be feeling too depressed this weekend. I doubt it since all the people that I can talk to are going to be out of town this weekend, but hey, miracle happens. ♥
If you're bored enough, you might want to play Dress'm Up Dubya. The Dubya Talk sound clips are hilarious. Makes me wonder if he really said those things. Did he? ♥
For something completely useless, check out VirtualStapler.com: Revolutionary Online Stapler Simulation. If you have a funky stapler that you want to immortalise online, you can mail it to them. Not sure if it's only the picture or the stapler itself that they want you to mail them, though. ♥
I just added thirteen new baby pictures to Babes. Considering how short my attention span is, it was quite an achievement. Go me! :)
On a totally different note, my friend Michel has released the public version of b2, a blogging tool that resides in your server and running on PHP and MySQL. It's worth trying. You might like it. It's perfect for my next project, which I'm going to reveal this weekend. That is, if I'm not slacking too much.
For someone who's leaving the internet world soon, I'm quite ambitious, aren't I? ;) ♥
Have I mentioned that I'm going to sing 24 songs oh so badly and write 24 silly haikus about 24 animals and plants during the 24-Hour Blogathon and post them here for the whole world to listen and read? ;) Sponsormesponsormesponsorme! Please? :) More info in the sidebar. ♥
Thursday Morning Haiku
Back to work again
To my freezing cold workplace
But I am smiling :)
Because Ev made my day by posting my baby picture project to Blogger News! Yay! I've got several submissions already, some of which failed to follow the guidelines but oh well. It's bound to happen anyway. I'm going to be really busy updating when I get home this evening. Hope I'll still have time to blog :) ♥
Happy Fourth of July to all my American friends! ♥
Late Sleepers of the World, Arise! (At a reasonable hour... say, 10) because the world is biased in favour of early risers. Hmmm. I'm an early riser and I don't feel like I'm being favoured. And I've been a late sleeper as well lately. Sleep at 2am, wake up at 5am. Yeah, I rule! But I'd love to be able to wake up at 10 and not being late for work. Too bad works starts at 6:30am. And my point is? Um, nothing. I just feel like complaining. ♥
What Historical Military Leader Are You Most Like? Yeah, it is yet another personality test, but aren't you in the least bit curious? I'm Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, Britain's greatest hero. Nice to meet you. ♥
"Titanic Legos at Sea" is a short, 6-minute film based on the film "Titanic" with all the characters and props made of legos. The film is unfinished because the creator just got tired of it. You'll understand the reason once you've seen the film. Anyway, you need RealPlayer to view the streaming movie, and preferably a broadband connection. But if your connection is crappy like mine, you can always download the film to your hard drive for later viewing. ♥
The Crunch Test is used to measure the crunchiness of cereal. How? Well, basically, the tester eats the cereal and makes notes on how the crunching sound degrades over time. Stupid? Indeedy! But if you want more, there's always the archives. Your favourite cereal might have been tested! ♥
According to the latest statistics from the silly Weblog Hipness Quiz, Zeldman is still everyone's favourite web designer, most weblog designs are already implementing CSS-2, most weblogs are updated with the weblogger's own content management system or manually updated, most people have never joined #BlogIRC, most weblogs get less than 50 visitors, and most webloggers have never been to SxSW. Hmm. What does that say about Bloggerville? ;) ♥
Wednesday Morning Haiku
It's Fourth of July
I'll be going back to work
Tomorrow. Oh, no!
The thought of having to go back to work really depresses me to no end. Anyway, I'm going to try to come up with either a new design or a silly web thing today. I'm in the mood for that.
I saw a rush of takers of the silly Weblog Hipness Quiz (which, by the way, was created out of boredom and nothing more) last night. I was wondering who was the weblogger with the supposedly high hipness level who linked to it. As it turned out, it was my dear Uncle Joe. You really should view source the page and check out his comment on it. But then again, if you're a truly hip weblogger, you'd already know that ;) ♥
From the "animals do the cutest things" files: how to tell when a rabbit is insulting you. Not sure when you'll find it useful, but it's an amusing read nonetheless. And the bunnies are just so cute! ♥
Tired of clicking and finding places to go in your daily surf? Then let the Web Autopilot guide you. Once you start your surf, you'll be taken to a new site every 12 seconds or whatever time interval you want. I wish someone would create something like this with the sites in the rotation limited to weblogs only. It would be fun. ♥
If you're learning Latin, knowing how to insult in that language will give you practice with the vocative. Seriously. And the insults are actually pretty funny. Did you know that being called "pumpkin" is an insult for the Roman? ♥
Since Jordan asked for it, here's a sound file of me yelling, "I'm King of the World!" Hope it'll amuse you, Jordan! :) ♥
Changed the colour scheme again, just because I can :) Don't you just love this one? It's so summery! ♥
I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to find that the number one search result for the Google Search: wannabe is none other than yours truly. My dream to become the biggest wannabe in the whole worldwide web has come true! Woohoo!
The second search result for "wannabe" is a website for a limited text-only web browser for MacOS called the Wanna-Be Web Browser. I really think that they should come up with a more convincing name for the browser if they want to make it a hit :) ♥
I don't like Buffy. I just can't see the appeal of the show. But that doesn't mean I have anything against people who love Buffy. I even love some of them. That's why I decided to blog Buffy the Vampire Slayer Selector. It's a quiz that will show you which Buffy character you are most like. According to that thing, I'm most like Willow, followed by Xander, Angel, Dawn, and Buffy respectively. I don't know if it's good or bad. ♥
Tuesday Morning Haiku
Had a good, long sleep
For the first time in ages
Had a silly dream.
I dreamed that I got some more Blogathon sponsors *grins* I'm sure there was more to that dream but that's all I can remember. It's funny how sometimes I remember dreams so vividly yet other times I only remember very small parts of them. It's not like I only want to remember the good things that happen in my dreams. I remember some nightmares better than some sweet dreams. But one thing for sure, I love having dreams. It's the only reason I go to sleep at night. ♥
If you're a man and you don't know what you sound like, just listen to the Sound Effects for Your Man for some idea, and wonder no more about why women find you so pathetic sometimes. ♥
Newish design! Woo! Yay me! Tell me how much you love it :) ♥
Here's a rather interesting statistics from my boring Weblog Hipness Quiz. If you haven't taken it, do take it. The statistics should get even more interesting with more quiz takers. ♥
Before you start your own lemonade business, play The Lemonade Game. But beware, it might change your mind. I didn't know that selling lemonade could be that difficult. But then again, I've never been good at selling anything. I'm only good at giving. ♥
Monday Morning Haiku
What a cold morning
The sun is shining gently
The sky is cloudy.
I'm officially sick now. Yay me! I won't be going back to work until after the Fourth of July. I might end up sleeping and not waking up until Thursday. I used to think that it wasn't possible for me, but now I've found that I can. At least I can during the day. I've been having trouble sleeping at night for several days now. Needless to say, I look like a drug addict. I really need to bring the life back into my being. I've been feeling pretty much like a zombie for quite awhile. Don't you just hate depression?
On a totally unrelated note, whoever it is that tried to contact me on AIM four times (or four people who tried to contact me once each, or two people who tried to contact me twice each, or any other combinations of the possibility) but in vain yesterday should try it again today. Who knows, you might have a better luck :) I was offline most of the time yesterday, and when I did go online, I only had ICQ on. Sorry! ♥
Happy Canada Day to Troy, Joe E., and other Canadian readers that I haven't had the pleasure of knowing! I guess since July 1 this year falls on a Sunday, you won't observe it until tomorrow, but hey, it's the thought that counts! ;) What exactly do you do on Canada Day anyway? ♥
If someone asked you, "What should I put on the fence?" what would you suggest? I would suggest egg shell so that it would look like Humpty Dumpty from the Nursery Rhymes. "Humpty Dumpty sitting on the fence." It has a certain ring to it. Don't you think? ♥
Shrektacular is an archive of lyrics from the animation movie, "Shrek". It's yet another Fairvue feature. I was kind of hoping to find that Nikolai sang all the songs as well but he didn't :( Oh well. "Shrek" won't be playing in Indonesia until July 10. Or so I heard from MTV. This has been a public broadcasting service brought to you by the letter B and the number 5. ♥
It's official: Every OS Sucks. Let's burn our computers! Or something. ♥
In my four hours of sleep last night (or rather, earlier this morning), I dreamed that I had a boyfriend. I don't know how we met or even where we were in that dream because everything looked so foreign to me. The place was like some sort of an industrial town where it's always grey. I can't remember his face, but I do remember that he always wore dark-coloured suit with long, black overcoat. We bought ice cream one day, and as we walked while eating our ice cream, he told me about how in the summer the ice cream shop sprinkled lemonade with water sprinkler and that if you wanted to buy a glass, you had to fill out some forms first with information like social security numbers. That story really made me laugh. I told him that I couldn't wait for summer. Then I found that the whole world was holding it against him for loving me. I heard he screamed, "Nobody cared about her then and now you're telling me that I'm a bad person for loving her?!?" That's when I woke up. And yes, the dream was in English, which is not my first language. I can't remember the last time I dreamed in Indonesian language, which is the language I speak in everyday's conversation. Yeah, I'm weird. ♥
Sunday Morning Haiku
Such a short weekend
Another sleepless weekend
Monday will be bad.
I only slept for 4 hours last night. I watched too much TV. I watched "West Wing", followed by a murder flick with Rob Lowe again, followed by yet another murder flick with Andrew McCarthy, followed by "Party of Five", in which I heard this song called "At My Most Beautiful" by R.E.M. [lyrics] [mp3] that I just had to download. I didn't finish the download until half past three in the morning. By then I didn't even feel sleepy anymore, but I managed to make myself fall asleep while listening to the beautiful song playing over and over again on WinAmp. It's such a simple and gentle song. It reminds me a lot of myself, of how I always save the voicemails I got from you (that is, if you ever left me a voicemail at all) so I could listen to your voice when I'm having a bad day. It never fails to make me smile :) ♥
